How to design a home page on Squarespace

As a Squarespace designer, I’ve seen how a well-structured home page can make a world of difference. Think of your home page as your digital store front or greeting—it’s the first thing visitors see, so let’s make it stand out

1. Start with a clear goal

There is one key question to ask yourself: What’s the main thing you want visitors to do? Maybe it’s booking a service, making a purchase, contacting you, or signing up for a newsletter. Knowing this ahead of time will help you design with purpose.

2. Create a hero section that pops

Your hero section (the first thing visitors see) should grab attention and make it crystal clear what you’re all about. Make sure to include:

  • A bold, catchy headline.

  • A stunning image or video that represents your brand.

  • A strong call-to-action (CTA), like “Shop Now” or “Let’s Work Together.”

3. Keep the navigation simple

Nobody likes a cluttered menu! Stick to 5–7 key links and put the most important ones up front. Your menu should be easy to navigate - put yourself in the shoes of a customer, can you find exactly what you need easily?

4. Use gorgeous, high-quality images

Squarespace makes it very easy to showcase beautiful images and videos. Use visuals that reflect your brand’s personality—it makes a huge difference.

5. Show off your testimonials

People love to see what others think before they commit. Add client testimonials, customer reviews, or even your social media feed to build trust with visitors.

6. Make sure it is optimised for mobile

More than half of website visits happen on mobile, so your home page needs to look just as good on a phone as it does on a desktop. When I design a website it is always mobiel led.

7. Keep it clean and fast

A slow site = frustrated visitors. Avoid clutter, keep images optimised (that means small!), and focus on the essentials. A simple, clean layout will keep people engaged longer.

Your Squarespace home page doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective! Focus on a clean layout, engaging visuals, and a clear purpose, and you’ll have a home page that looks amazing and works for you. Get in touch if you need help on this first step!
