5 simple ways to boost Squarespace SEO

If you’ve built a website on Squarespace, you want people to actually find it. That’s where SEO (Search Engine Optimization) comes in! It may sound technical, but don’t worry—you don’t need to be an expert to make a big difference. Squarespace has built-in SEO tools, and with a few easy tweaks, you can help your site show up higher in search results. Here are five simple things you can do to improve your Squarespace SEO. Or get in touch today and I can help you out!

1. Use keywords

Think about what people might type into Google when they’re looking for what you offer. Those words are your “keywords.” Try to naturally include them in:

  • Your page titles

  • Headings (the bold text that organizes your content)

  • Image descriptions

  • Your blog posts

Just keep it natural—no need to cram in words just for the sake of it. If it sounds awkward, it probably won’t help your SEO.

2. Give your pages clear titles and descriptions

When your site pops up in Google, the title and short description (called a meta description) help people decide whether to click. You can customize these in Squarespace by going to Page SettingsSEO. Keep them short, clear, and to the point!

Example: Title: Affordable Wedding Photography | Jane Doe Photography Description: Beautiful, stress-free wedding photography. Book your free consultation today!

3. Make your page links easy to read

Your page’s web address (URL) should be simple and clear. Instead of a random string of numbers, make it something people can understand. For example:

❌ www.yoursite.com/p-124adf23 ✅ www.yoursite.com/wedding-photography

A clean, simple URL helps both visitors and Google understand what your page is about.

4. Optimise your images

Large images can slow down your site, which can hurt your SEO. Here are a few tips to keep your images looking perfect;

  • Resize images before uploading (aim for 1500–2500 pixels wide).

  • Name your image files in a way that makes sense (e.g., wedding-photography.jpg instead of IMG_1234.jpg).

  • Add a short description (alt text) to each image so search engines can understand what’s in it.

5. Website links

Google sees links from other websites as a “vote of confidence” for your site. The more quality websites link to you, the more trustworthy your site looks. Here are a few ways to get links:

  • Write guest blog posts for industry-related websites.

  • Get listed in online directories related to your business.

  • Collaborate with other businesses and ask them to link to your site.

  • Share your content on social media so people are more likely to link back to it.

SEO doesn’t have to be overwhelming! By making small tweaks—like using the right words, writing clear titles, keeping links simple, optimising images, and getting other sites to link to you—you can help your Squarespace site show up in more searches.
